As a result of a Presidential Proclamation made by Ronald Reagan in 1984, the last week of June has been designated at HELEN KELLER DEAF BLIND AWARENESS WEEK. Every year, the Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults (HKNC) celebrates this anniversary with a national campaign. Many states also launch statewide campaigns to raise awareness of deaf-blindness with the state.
Several years ago, NFADB interviewed several family members to gain a better understanding of how deaf-blindness has impacted their family. The videos below describe how these individuals and families feel as they look to the future with optimism. We hope you will watch and share these videos to increase awareness of deaf-blindness in the communities you reach. Please feel free to post on websites and share on your social media sites.
